Olivia and James were married on the fourth of September, on the terrace at Sage on the UBC campus, with the North Shore mountains behind them and their families in the front row. The morning started at home — the dress on its hanger in the garden, the shoes on the wet stone, the smallest guest ready in the smallest suit — and the afternoon ended with a high five walking back down the aisle.
What I look for at every wedding is the moment nobody is performing. With these two it was everywhere. Before the ceremony we walked down to the beach, with the city across the water, and they mostly forgot I was there — which is exactly what I hope for. During the vows they laughed more than they cried, and the front row laughed with them.
This is the day in order, from the doorstep to the first drink on the terrace.
